Franchise Contract
In July 2001, the CCSD Board approved a franchise agreement with Mission Country Disposal, Inc. to provide refuse, recycling and green waste collection services to Cambria. The Board also adopted Ordinance No. 2-2001 establishing revised rates. Under the 1989 AB929 Recycling Law, Californians are required to substantially reduce trash being buried in landfills. In an effort to contribute to this statewide effort, the CCSD Board contracted with Mission Country Disposal to initiate a more aggressive recycling program for Cambria. To encourage recycling, the system features:
- Weekly collection of green waste and co-mingled recycling
- Three different wheeled containers provided by Mission Country Disposal
- Fees based on volume of non-recyclable garbage
In early 2002, Mission Country Disposal was purchased by Waste Connections, Inc. The CCSD Board adopted a resolution on April 25, 2002 approving the assignment of the refuse, recycling and green waste collection contracts to Waste Connections, Inc., an experienced industry firm with operations in California, Washington and Idaho.
