Proposed Community Park

East Fiscalini Ranch Preserve

The CCSD Board of Directors unanimously approved the Revised Community Park Plan dated November 10, 2009 at their November 16, 2009 Regular Board Meeting.

The CCSD Board of Directors unanimously approved the revised Community Park Plan on
November 16, 2009.  The plan calls for development of athletic fields, picnic areas, playground, trails, and a dog park on the East Ranch.

In May 2003, a Conceptual Park Plan based on community input workshops in 2002 was approved by the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission (PROS). It was submitted to the CCSD Board of Directors at its November 20, 2003 Board meeting. The proposed plan indicated development of 17.5 acres of The Fiscalini Ranch Preserve/East. .

In 2001, the County of San Luis Obispo contributed $500,000 towards the purchase of the East Ranch for development as an active recreation community park. The project is incuded in the San Luis Obispo County Parks and Recreation Element. It was also adopted by the CCSD Board in 1994 as part of the PROS Master Plan.

The Need
Cambria has a major deficit in parkland and recreational opportunities, particularly for its growing youth population. Local school facilities are maximized for athletic activities and there has been a sharp increase in soccer, baseball and other sports requiring additional playing fields. The County owned Shamel Park is far too small to support a population of more than 6,000.
