Upcoming Community Meetings for the Desalination Executable Solution and Logistics (DESAL) Plan

The San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (District) invites community members to participate in upcoming community engagement sessions for the DESAL Plan – a multi-phase effort to explore the potential for a regional desalination project. Launched in partnership with other local agencies with water supply planning responsibilities, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure a more resilient water supply for San Luis Obispo County into the future.

The District will be hosting two identical Community Engagement Sessions from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on both Monday, April 20, 2026, and Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Monday, April 20, 2026 Tuesday, April 21, 2026
Morro Bay Community Center 1001 Kennedy Way Morro Bay, CA 93442 Ramona Garden Park Center 993 Ramona Avenue Grover Beach, CA 93433

During these sessions, participants will learn how potential ocean desalination alternatives are being evaluated, key technical, environmental, and economic considerations, as well as how desalination could fit within a broader water supply portfolio. These sessions are being held in different geographic locations to improve accessibility for community members across the region, but the content will be the same and attendees are encouraged to attend whichever is most convenient. Please plan to join us to:

  1. Learn about progress made on developing potential desalination alternatives and how they are being evaluated
  2. Understand key tradeoffs, constraints and considerations related to potential desalination alternatives
  3. Ask questions and engage directly with the project team and provide input before the study is finalized

Please visit the DESAL Plan webpage at: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/DESAL to join the email list, submit public comments, or view project materials as they become available.

If you plan to come to the Engagement Sessions, please consider submitting an RSVP (see DESAL Plan website).
