5/12/2023 Letter from the General Manager

Dear Cambria,

I hope you have been enjoying the nice change of weather, which has drawn an influx of visitors to our fantastic community. Let us discuss some of the district's achievements over the past two weeks. Our Facilities and Resources crews were able to reopen the Santa Rosa Creek Trail after significant damage from the storms.

May contain: water, gate, outdoors, and flood
May contain: road, plant, vegetation, tarmac, tree, land, nature, outdoors, woodland, person, path, and walking

The Board of Directors approved the District to move forward with a Memorandum of Understanding with Mission Country Disposal for a Low Income Rebate Program for Solid Waste Collection Service. This will align with our existing program that reduces fees for low-income residents under our Wastewater Utility Reduction Program. If you have any questions, please contact our administrative office at (805) 927-6223.

The fire department has taken delivery of its new battery-powered Hurst extrication equipment and placed them into service. These new rescue tools are faster to deploy, more robust, and waterproof, up to 11 feet. These tools provide an excellent way for our brave fire department staff to engage in vehicle extrication in some of the most challenging environments while limiting the environmental effects of older fossil fuel-driven equipment.

The District has continued to work with local, regional, and State agencies for continuing homeless encampment cleanups—credit to Facilities and Resources Manager Carlos Mendoza for his continued work coordinating those efforts.

Our Water Superintendent, Jim Green, and his staff have read over 4000 water meters over the last 21 days. Two thousand of those are manual reads.

We have engaged in discussions with the Coastal Commission on several of their concerns as it applies to the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). While these discussions have been productive, we are waiting on the permitting process from the County of San Luis Obispo. More to come as we navigate several crucial water issues in our community.

I invite you to meet me on May 31, 2023, from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Cambria Veterans' Memorial Hall. We will provide coffee, snacks, and the ability to engage in dialogue about everything Cambria. We will have several sessions to accommodate the different schedules of our community. 9-12 pm, 1-4 pm, and 4-7 pm.

The Cambria Community Services District administrative office will be open Monday - Thursday and every other Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or by appointment only. The administrative office is closed for lunch daily from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. If you have questions or need to schedule an appointment, please contact our administrative office.

As always, I welcome your feedback and ideas. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me or any of our management team.

Thank you again for your support, and I look forward to serving you.
