7/3/2025 Letter from the General Manager

Dear Cambrians,

I’m pleased to share an exciting update and important clarification about the funding for the Cambria Skatepark Project.

On June 1, 2023, CCSD staff submitted a grant application to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for the skatepark. On December 4, 2023, California State Parks recommended $35.6 million in LWCF grants to the National Park Service (NPS) for 16 local park projects—and the Cambria Skatepark was one of the selected recipients.

We’re thrilled to announce that the Cambria Skatepark has officially been awarded funding through the LWCF. The California Department of Parks and Recreation administers these federal funds for local projects like ours.

It’s important for the community to understand that LWCF operates on a reimbursement basis, meaning:

  • The funds are not provided upfront.
  • The District must cover eligible construction costs as they occur.
  • After payment, we will submit documentation to the State for review.
  • Reimbursement will follow for approved expenses.

Before reimbursement can begin:

  • A grant agreement must be finalized, signed, and the funds officially encumbered.
  • CCSD staff must participate in a virtual administrative workshop, where we will review all grant requirements, including eligible costs, proper record-keeping, and the reimbursement process during construction.

The National Park Service’s approval secures the funding for Cambria. We are now working through the necessary steps to ensure smooth project execution and sound financial oversight as we continue fundraising efforts and move toward construction.

We look forward to keeping you updated on the next steps and progress of this much-anticipated community project.

If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you again for your support; I am at your service.
